Privacy Policy
KnowWhere (Android) · Last updated: September 8, 2026
1. Introduction
KnowWhere ("we", "our", or "the App") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your data.
KnowWhere does not display advertising and does not use advertising identifiers for ad targeting or ad measurement.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Location Data
- We collect your precise GPS location when you grant location permission.
- If you select "Allow all the time" (or equivalent), location may be collected in the background so approved friends can see your position even when the App is not open.
- If you select "While using the app", location is only collected while the App is in use.
- Your location is only shared with users you have explicitly authorized (for example, via mutual location-code exchange or an accepted invitation). No location is shared without your action and consent.
2.2 User-Provided Information
- Display name or nickname you set within the App.
- Optional profile avatar, if you choose to set one.
- Location codes you generate or enter.
2.3 Automatically Collected Data
- Device type and operating system version.
- Device identifier — used to create and identify your guest account within the App. No registration or login is required.
- App usage and crash diagnostics needed to keep the App stable and improve core features.
We do not collect Google Advertising ID (GAID) for advertising purposes.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Creating and identifying your guest account using your device identifier.
- Providing real-time location sharing between authorized users.
- Displaying locations on the friends map.
- Showing historical route playback, nearby friends, and zone / geofence alerts.
- Sending related notifications you enable (for example, arrival/leave alerts), subject to system notification permission.
- Improving app stability and performance.
We do not use your data for advertising, ad profiling, or third-party ad networks.
4. Location Sharing — How It Works
Location sharing in this App is consent-based and bilateral:
- You generate a unique location code and share it with a trusted person, or send an invitation they must accept.
- Sharing becomes active only after mutual confirmation (for example, the other person enters your code and confirms, or accepts your invitation).
- You can stop sharing at any time via in-app sharing or permission controls.
- You can also revoke location access at any time in your device system settings.
5. Historical Route Data
The App stores location history to display route playback. Historical route data is retained for 7 days and then automatically deleted. You may request earlier deletion by contacting us at support@medipeaklimited.com.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services that may process limited technical data to operate the App:
- OpenFreeMap / OpenStreetMap / MapLibre — for map tile rendering. Map providers may receive map tile requests necessary to display the map.
- Reverse Geocoding Service — for converting GPS coordinates into place names (used in route history). Only coordinates needed for the lookup are transmitted; we do not include your friend list in these requests.
- Google Firebase (for example Remote Config and/or crash reporting, if enabled) — may process device identifiers and diagnostic/event data to configure and stabilize the App. See Firebase privacy.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your friend connections or approved-contact location data with advertisers.
7. Data Retention
- Real-time location data is stored for active sharing and related service operation.
- Historical route data is retained for 7 days, then automatically deleted.
- Display names, location codes, and friend relationships are retained until you delete the App or request deletion, or until they are otherwise removed through in-app controls.
8. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or California, you may have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of your personal data.
- Deletion — request that we delete your data.
- Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
- Objection — object to certain processing based on legitimate interests.
- Withdraw consent — revoke location or notification permission at any time via your device settings.
To exercise these rights, contact us at: support@medipeaklimited.com
9. Children's Privacy
KnowWhere may be used by families. Users under 13 should use the App only under the supervision and with the consent of a parent or guardian.
We do not knowingly collect personal data beyond what is necessary to provide location sharing and related core features. Location data is shared only with users who have been mutually authorized through an affirmative action (such as exchanging a location code or accepting an invitation).
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has shared location data with an unauthorized person, revoke access via in-app sharing controls, uninstall the App if needed, or contact us at support@medipeaklimited.com.
10. Data Security
We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for data transmitted between your device and our servers. Access to servers that store location-related data is restricted.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through an in-app notice when reasonably practicable. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
